♫ Welcome to McKeown's Music Studio! ♫
I've been playing the piano and teaching music most of my life. I took my first piano lesson when I was in the 3rd grade and couldn't wait to catch up to my older brother in his piano book! Growing up, music was an integral part of my household and was encouraged and supported by my parents. When I was 16 years old, I taught my very first piano student and I'm still happily teaching years later. I was trained classically in both piano and voice and have a Bachelor's of Music Education from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Master's of Music from Illinois State University. I currently offer lessons in piano, voice and ukulele out of my home studio. I teach all ages, from young emerging readers to adult students and all musical levels from beginning to advanced. My previous piano teachers included Lynn Strothman, Donald Beattie, and Dr. Laurence Campbell.
In 2015, I co-founded the Greater Newburyport Children's Chorus and a couple afternoons a week you can find me behind the baton directing ensembles as Music Director. I enjoy this choral work and think ensemble work for all musicians is a key ingredient to being a well rounded musician.
In addition to teaching, I'm available for hire to play and perform all types of piano music for special occasions and events. I've played for many weddings, holiday gatherings and family events. I offer accompaniment services for vocalists & instrumentalists. I've also been the Music Director of various musicals and often play in the pit orchestras, one of my greatest joys!
Please contact me with lesson, accompaniment & gig inquiries.
Hope to see you in the studio - Gina
